I love a good game day setup, but I also think decorating for football season should be easy. You shouldn’t need an entire afternoon, a cart full of supplies, or advanced crafting skills just to make the snack table look festive.

Sometimes all you need is a printer, a pair of scissors, a little tape or glue … and a free printable!

This week’s football printable is a DIY football paper chain, with two coordinating designs: brown strips featuring football laces and green strips inspired by the lines on a football field.

Mix, Match or Pick a Favorite

You can alternate the football and field strips to create one long chain, make separate chains from each design, or mix them together however you like.

Print one page of each design for a small decoration or several copies if you want to make a longer chain. That’s one of the nice things about paper chains: you can make them exactly as long or short as you need.

Use your finished chain to decorate a:

  • Game day snack table
  • Football watch party
  • Tailgate set-up
  • Football-themed birthday party
  • Kids’ football party
  • Super Bowl party

I’m planning to simply drape mine across my game day snack table. Easy decorating for the win!

How to Make Your Football Paper Chain

You’ll need the printable, scissors, and either tape, glue or a glue stick.

1. Print and cut.
Print as many copies as you need, then cut apart the individual strips.

2. Make your first loop.
Bring the ends of one strip together, overlapping them slightly, and secure with tape or glue.

3. Add another strip.
Thread the next paper strip through the first loop. Bring its ends together and secure.

4. Keep going!
Continue adding strips until your chain is as long as you’d like. I ended up using 2 sheets of each design, and ended up with a 2 foot long chain.

That’s it. Sometimes the old-school crafts are the best ones.

Want to Hang Your Paper Chain?

You can drape the finished chain across a table, mantel, shelf or party display just as it is.

If you’d rather hang it, here’s an easy optional step: thread a piece of string or ribbon through the loop at each end of the completed chain. Use the string to tie or tape the chain wherever you’d like it to hang.

No need to punch holes in the paper or add anything complicated.
