Hello again, sports fans! It’s that wonderful time of year when basketball and hockey are still going on, soccer and race car seasons have started, and baseball season is just around the corner! With so many choices, you can’t say there isn’t anything to watch on TV!

I also like to have lots of choices when it comes to what I wear to represent my team on game day. Earrings are an easy way to show off your team colors, so I have a ton of them in my jewelry box.

Today I’m going to show you how to make your own tassel earrings, to expand your team spirit wear selection, and save some money doing it.

Tools and Materials

Ready to get started? First, you’ll need to gather the necessary tools and materials. For each pair of earrings, you’ll need:

1 skein of embroidery floss, in your choice of color
1 pair of standard ear wires
2 10mm jump rings

You will also need a pair of sharp scissors, and 2 pairs of pliers (jewelry pliers are easier to use, but any pliers will work).

Instructions

Step 1 is to prepare the embroidery floss:
a. Remove the paper labels
b. Unwind 3 lengths of floss, cut off and set aside
c. Unwind 3 more lengths of floss, cut off and set aside

Step 2 is to attach the hardware
a. Open a jump ring, and slide it over one looped end of the floss
b. Slide an ear wire onto the open jump ring
c. Close the jump ring
d. Repeat at other end of floss

Step 3 is to tie the tassels:
a. Use one of the pieces of floss you set aside
b. Wrap it tightly around skein, about 1/2″ from the jump ring, and leaving a 4″ tail at the beginning and end
c. Double knot the tail ends
d. Repeat on opposite end

Last step is to finish the tassels!
a. Fold the floss in half, then cut it to separate it into 2 equal sized tassels
b. Shake the tassels to get rid of any loose ends
c. Smooth the tassel, then trim to even out the ends

That’s it! Your new tassel earrings are ready to wear!

Don’t worry if that sounds too complicated, or you just don’t have the tools needed for this project! Just jump over to Team Colors By Carrie, and buy a pair of these fun tassel earrings there (and shipping is free)!

I’ll see you back here next week!
