Super Bowl Squares is one of my favorite low-effort, high-fun game traditions. You don’t need to know football, you don’t need to yell at the TV, and everyone has a shot at winning. Below you’ll find free printable squares boards plus simple instructions so you can set this up in minutes.
What are Super Bowl Squares?
It’s a numbers game played alongside the Super Bowl. Players buy or claim squares on a 10×10 grid, and winners are determined by the last digit of each team’s score at the end of each quarter.
Luck only. Zero sports knowledge required.
What you’ll need:
- A printed Super Bowl Squares board (download below)
- Pens or markers
- A TV showing the game
- Optional: a small buy-in or prize pool
Or a generic one (with no team names) if you prefer, to use for ANY game):
How to play:

- Fill the grid (see above)
Each player writes their name in one or more squares. One square = one chance to win. - Assign numbers (see below)
Once the grid is full, randomly assign the numbers 0–9 across the top and down the side. Do this after names are written so it stays fair. - Watch the game
At the end of each quarter, look at the last digit of each team’s score. - Find the winner
Match the score digits to the grid. The name in that square wins that quarter.

Common payout setup:
- Final score (usually the biggest prize)
- 1st quarter
- Halftime
- 3rd quarter

Tips from experience
- Tape the board somewhere visible so everyone can see it
- Take a photo of the completed board before kickoff
- If the grid doesn’t fill, just adjust payouts or play for bragging rights
This is an easy way to get everyone involved, even the people who are just there for snacks and commercials.
Enjoy!
Until next time,
Carrie
