Everybody loves the pictures we take during a game day party, end of season sports party or birthday party. Photo booths make them even more fun, especially when they match your team colors or party theme!

And the best way to get exactly the colors you need? Make it yourself, using plates you can find online or at the dollar store!

Let’s do it!

Step 1 – Gather Your Supplies

You’ll need the following:

  • Backing of your choice – I used 2 pieces of 20″x30″ foam board, so mine would be light enough to hang on the wall using 3M Command Strips. For a full sized backdrop, you could use a 4′ x 8′ sheet of thin plywood, and just lean it against the wall.
  • Paper or plastic plates in 2 sizes and at least 2 colors (I used 16 black and 16 white dinner sized plates, plus 20 black and 20 white dessert sized plates). You’ll need at least double that for the plywood backing.
  • A hot glue gun and glue sticks

.

Step 2 – Prep Your Backing

I used packaging tape to put my foam boards together.

If you are using plywood, just dust it off a little, and you’ll be good to go.

.

Step 3 – First Layer of Plates

Heat up the glue gun while you randomly lay out a layer of dinner sized plates. Overlap the edges of your backing just a little (I went too far on this first attempt, and ended up bending a few plates), and don’t worry about any gaps in between the plates (you’ll cover these later).

Use a small amount of glue to attach the bottom of the plate to the backing.

.

Step 4 – Plate Layer 2

Add a second layer of plates, using the dinner sized plates to cover some of the bigger gaps in the first layer.

Add the dessert plates to fill in where the larger plates won’t fit. It’s okay if there are still some gaps.

Use a small amount of glue to attach the bottom of the second layer plates to the rims of the first layer plates.

.

Step 5 – Top Plate Layer

Use just the dessert sized plates for a third layer, and to cover any places you can see through to the base.

And you’re done!

.

I made my backdrop in black and white, to match my office accessories, so I can use it for some business pictures and videos. But when I make another one, it will be in green, gold and white, for my beloved Green Bay Packers.

What colors will you choose?

See you next week!
