Football squares is a popular game that can be played either for money or just for fun, so I thought I’d give you a quick overview of how to play, and a FREE printable to make it super easy!

Sound good?

Let’s go!

Here’s the file to print out:

And here are the directions:

One – Print out the football squares file, and decide if you are playing for money, or just for fun (and maybe some prizes).

Two – Have people choose which squares they want, and put their names in them (making sure no one fills in the shaded boxes). There are 100 squares, so if you are playing just for fun, divide the 100 squares evenly between the number of people you have. If you are playing for money, each square can be purchased for an assigned amount, and all of the money collected goes into the pot.

Three – After all of the squares have been filled in, randomly assign numbers 0 through 9 to each column, and 0 to 9 to each row (in the shaded boxes). Each square now represents a specific score in the game based on the column and row numbers.

Four – Winners are determined at the end of each quarter and at the end of game. Use the last number in each team’s score, and then match those numbers on the grid to see which square intersects those two numbers. For example, if the Chiefs have 17 and the Bucs have 6 at the end of the 1st quarter, find the square where 7 for the Chiefs and 6 for the Bucs meet. Or maybe 10% for each of the quarters, and 50% for the final score!

Five – If you played for fun, you might give prizes to each of the winners. If playing for money, payouts are can be 20% of the pot to the 1st through 3rd quarter winners, and 40% to the final score winner.

Enjoy!

Until next week,

Carrie
