Hello fellow sports fans!

Have you been watching the baseball post season games? I have to give a shout out to my home state Milwaukee Brewers on being the first team to secure their spot in a Conference Series, by sweeping the Rockies in 3 games!

Even if you aren’t a baseball fan, we have a lot going on beyond the build up to the World Series.  The NFL and college football seasons are rolling along, the NHL season is underway, and the NBA tips off their season next week!

It seems like the perfect time to share another team spirit DIY craft!

I’ve already shared several DIYs that are made using plastic tablecloths from the dollar store (Simple Outdoor Wreath, Tassel Garland and Team Spirit PomPoms), and today I’m back with one more project that I think you are going to love. It’s a fancier version of the door wreath, but one that I believe is worth the extra time and effort.

So grab your supplies and let’s get started!

Step 1 – Collect the Supplies

Here’s what you need:

  • 6 Plastic tablecloths in your team colors
    • Get the long rectangular ones (54” x 108” is a common size)
    • I used 3 each of 2 colors, but you could also use 2 each of 3 colors.
  • A 12″ or 14″ wire frame wreath form
  • Sharp scissors

Step 2 – Cut the Tablecloths into strips

  • Remove a tablecloth from its wrapper, and set it on the table as shown20180813_112202
  • Cut a strip measuring about 1-1/2 to 2” wide
    • Out of the package, my tablecloth was 7.5” wide, and I cut it into 4 strips
  • Cut that strip in half
  • Unfold each piece, and cut in half the long way (you are just making thinner stacks, to make the next cutting step easier)
  • Trim a bit off of each side of the ends of the strips so they have a point, and look something like a leaf shape. Don’t fuss over it too much, as it doesn’t have to be perfect20180813_112508
  • Repeat the above steps for all 6 of your tablecloths20180813_112627
  • Separate all of the layers of the leaves you cut
    • This is the slowest part of the whole process, so I recommend doing it while watching a movie (or a football game)20180813_112702

Step 3 – Tie the Leaf Strips on the Wreath form

  • Take a strip and gently tie it onto the wreath frame, starting on one of the sections in the center of the wreath.
  • Repeat with a second strip of the same color20180902_103857
  • Then tie on 2 strips of the second color20180902_103937
  • As you tie on more strips, slide them tightly together so they are dense and fluffy.20180905_092441
  • Continue tying on strips until the entire wire frame is covered.

Step 4 – Finish it up

  • When you have as many strips tied on as you want, flip the wreath over.
  • Use your fingers to gently push any loose strips from the back of the wreath through to the front.20181004_150439
  • Turn the wreath back over, and fluff out all of the strips on the front.

Step 5 – Hang it Up!

  • Tie a piece of wire or string to the wreath frame so you can hang it up.
