Hello sports fans! How did everyone’s teams do over the weekend? My Packers are officially out of the playoff hunt, which we all saw coming, but it still stung a little. Is your favorite team still in the picture?

And can you believe that Christmas is just 1 week away?

I’ve got a last minute craft to try, if you’ve got a shelf or table that needs a little holiday spirit. These cute little snowmen are quick and easy to put together (no sewing) and the materials can be found at your local dollar store!

Ready to give them a try?

Gather the following supplies (per snowman)

  • 1 white kid’s athletic sock (I used kid’s size 4– 6-1/2)
  • 1 holiday patterned crew sock (I used adult, butkids will work too)
  • Yarn or twine
  • Small buttons or beads for eyes (black) and nose(orange)
OPTIONAL: draw the eyes and nose with markers
  • Button for shirt (optional)
  • Rice or beans for stuffing
  • Small rubber bands
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Step 1 – Snowman Body

  • Cut the foot off one of the white socks, and discard

  • Turn the upper part of the sock inside out

  • Rubber band one end shut
  • Turn the sock right side back out

  • Fill the sock with rice

  • Rubber band the top shut

Step 2 – Snowman Shirt

  • Cut the top band off one of the patterned socks, and discard

  • Cut out the heel section off that same sock, as shown, leaving 2 fairly straight pieces. Discard the heel section.
  • Take the smaller patterned piece, and slip it over the snowman body, positioning it as a shirt. NOTE: If it’s too big, remove it and trim it down.

  • Cut a piece of yarn or twine

  • Tightly tie the yarn around the top of the shirt on the snowman, to create a neck

  • Trim the yarn

Step 3 – Snowman’s Hat

  • Cut a piece of yarn

  • Tie it around the toe of the foot section of the patterned sock
  • Fold the edge of the patterned section under, to conceal the rough edges

  • Pull the hat onto the snowman’s head

Step 4 – Snowman’s Face

  • Place drops of glue on the snowman’s face, for the eyes and nose

  • Position the black beads for the eyes, and the orange bead for the nose. Let dry.

Step 5 – Finishing Touches

  • Glue a button (or 2 ) onto the snowman’s shirt

  • Cut additional pieces of yarn to decorate the top of the hat, and the scarf.

Aren’t these fun?

I made a second snowman, using the entire white sock, and dividing it into 3 sections instead of 2. I also used markers to draw on the eyes and nose, so you could see what that looked like.

Stay tuned for another variation of these snowmen, featuring your favorite team colors!

Until next week,

Carrie

P.S. for you sports fans. Lots more sports and team spirit posts are coming in January!
