Hey sports fans!
Can you believe that next week is Thanksgiving already? I’m looking forward to a day of family, food and football, but once it’s over, it’s all about Christmas! The holiday season is almost here, and my mind is already on decorating, baking and gift wrapping.
Today I’m going to show you a really quick and easy way to dress up a gift box. And these tassels are so cute that you might even be tempted to skip the wrapping paper! You can make tassels in any colors you like: your favorite team’s colors (like the green and yellow in my example), or to match any party or decorating scheme for the holidays!
Are you ready to give them a try?
Step 1 – Gather supplies
You will need the following:
- Colored paper
- I’m using 8×10” card stock
- Twine or string
- Glue
- Scissors
- Ruler (optional)
Step 2 – Cut the paper
- Cut the paper into 3 sections, each 3-1/3” x 8” (you can measure or eyeball it)
- Cut the sections into 2 pieces, each 3-1/3 x 4”
- You will have 6 pieces, and each piece will make 1 tassel
- Repeat with a second color, if you choose
- Cut narrow strips into one of the pieces of paper, leaving about ½” uncut on the 4” edge
- I cut my strips about 0.2” wide
- You can measure and mark with a pencil if you want to, or just eyeball it
Step 3 – Roll the Tassel
- Cut a piece of twine, about 6” long
- Fold the twine in half, and tie a simple overhand knot
- Trim close to the knot, leaving a loop

- Put glue on the paper, completely covering the area you left uncut

- Lay the twine loop on one edge of the paper, placing the knot where the uncut area and the cut strips meet, and making sure the loop part is outside of the paper
- Starting at the end where the twine loop is, begin rolling the uncut area of the paper
- Keep the top edge of the paper aligned as you roll
- Allow the glue to dry
That’s it! Your tassel is ready to decorate a gift box, or hang on the tree.
I also had some two sided scrapbook paper on hand, and made 2 tassels with the 2 different sides on the outside. Aren’t they festive?
That’s it for today! I’ve got a lot of things to get ready in my Team Colors By Carrie shop, to make sure I’m ready for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and can fill all of your orders!
Until next week,
Carrie
