Hey sports fans! How are your sports teams doing this Fall? My Badgers and Packers are doing okay, but not as well as I expected (or hoped) they would be doing this season. How about you?
With the holidays rapidly approaching, I’ve start thinking about gift giving, and gift wrapping. Have you ever needed to wrap a gift at the last minute, and didn’t have a nice gift bag, or a box and some wrapping paper handy? Today I’ve got an alternative for you, that is so fast and easy, you might want to present all your gifts this way!
How about a gift bag you can whip up in a just a few minutes from a lunch bag and some Washi tape?
If you haven’t heard of Washi tape, it is is a lot like masking tape or painters tape, because it is adhesive backed, and very easy to pull up and re-position. It’s about as sticky as a post-it note, making it really easy to work with. And it comes in hundreds (if not thousands) of colors and patterns, so you are sure to fall in love the first time you go shopping for some of your own.
So hurry to your favorite craft store to grab a few rolls, and give this easy gift bag project a try.
Step 1 – Gather supplies
You will need the following:
- Lunch bags (available at the grocery store)
- I had the brown ones around, but they also come in white
- Washi tape (find it at any craft store or order from Amazon)
- Scissors

Step 2 – Apply Washi tape to bag
- Lay your bag on a flat work surface, folded side to the back
- Pull a piece of tape off the roll, and place it on the bag

- Continue with more washi tape pieces, in any pattern you desire
- If you don’t get it lined up straight on the first try, just pull it off and try again!
- Trim the ends of the washi tape even with the sides of the bag
- Fold down the top of the bag and crease it (it’s easier to do before you fill the bag)
- Open the bag, and place your gift inside
- Close the bag, and add a piece of washi over the open edges to hold shut

Alternate designs
- You can get so creative! Here are just a few options:
Washi tape comes in so many colors and patterns, that the possibilities for gift bags are endless! For a sports fan, use washi tape in their favorite sports team colors. Use bright, festive colors for a birthday. Or go with seasonal colors, like red and green for Christmas, or pink and white for Valentine’s Day!

With lunch bags and washi tape around, you’ll never have to run to the store for a gift bag again!
See you next week!
