Hey, sports fans!
Who has been watching the 2018 World Cup? There have been some really good matches, and there is still plenty of action remaining. Group play runs through June 28, the Round of 16 runs June 30th through July 3rd, and then the Quarterfinals take place July 6-11th. The Semifinals are July 10th and 11th, followed by the Final on July 15th.
Baseball fans know that the finals of the College World Series, featuring the Oregon State Beavers and the Arkansas Razorbacks, got started last night. It’s a best of three game series, so you can still catch game 2 tonight and game 3 (if needed) tomorrow night!
Have I updated you on my NASCAR pool lately? I’ve totally tanked, picking several drivers over the last month or so that didn’t even finish the race. I think I’ve dropped down to 13th! Ugh!
Now on to something I’m doing much better at, which is getting ready to celebrate Independence Day! I love all things patriotic and red, white and blue, so it’s no surprise how much I enjoy the July 4th holiday! So how about some super easy artwork to get us all in the spirit?
A few weeks ago, we created with Stars and Stripes Artwork, and this time I wanted something totally different! So I thought, why not about some abstract art?
On to the painting fun!

Gather up your supplies, and let’s start painting!
Step 1 – Collect the Supplies
Here’s what you need (from your local hobby / craft store):
- Stretched canvas in the size of your choice
- Get the ones that are primed with gesso
- Acrylic paints in red, white and blue
- I bought this set on Amazon
- NOTE: this project works better with a thicker paint, which is why I chose these squeeze tubes instead of the small bottles of paint I usually use
- Palette Knife Set
- A plastic knife would work too
- Small paint brush – I used 1/4” wide (optional)
- Newspapers (to protect your work area)

Step 2 –Preparation
- Lay some sheets of newspaper on your work area
- Place your canvas on the newspaper

Step 3 – Apply the paint
- Randomly squeeze some white paint onto the canvas
- Randomly squeeze some red paint onto the canvas
- Randomly squeeze some blue paint onto the canvas
Step 4 – Spread the paint
- Use the plastic knife or spatula to spread out the white paint
- Leave some ridges of paint, rather than flattening it out completely
- Wipe the white paint off of the knife
- Spread out the red paint
- Leave some ridges of paint, rather than flattening it out completely
- Spread some of the red paint into the white paint
- Wipe the red paint off of the knife
- Spread out the blue paint
- Spread some of the blue paint into the white and red paint
- Wipe the blue paint off of the knife
- Use the paint brush to further blend the paint colors together (optional)

- Rinse the paint out of the brush
- Let dry thoroughly
- This make take overnight, depending on how thickly you applied the paint

Wasn’t that fun and easy? I’m adding this art to the red, white and blue collection I have on my screened in porch!
Until next week ,
Carrie
