Hello sports fans!

Are you as excited about the start of football season as I am?  Our local high school action gets underway next week, college games kick off August 31st, and the NFL Pre-season has started and leads into week 1 regular season action on September 7th. I’m in my happy place 🙂

Today I’m sharing a really easy and inexpensive way to create decorations for a party or game day get together.  You can create these fun polka dot garlands in any color scheme you need to match your party’s theme.  The paper circles would also look great in your favorite team colors to add something fun to your tailgate or game day party!

Doesn’t that sound good?

Let’s get started!

Step 1 – Gather the Supplies

Here are the things you will need:

  • Colored paper, like card stock
  • A circle punch
    • I used 2 different sizes
    • You can also use a scissors to cut the circles manually
  • Glue
    • Any glue suitable for paper will work fine
  • String for hanging

Step 2 –Cut the circles

  • Use the circle punches to create your circles
  • I cut 25-30 of each color and size
  • The number you will need is dependent on how long your finished garland is, and the spacing you want between the circles

2b - circles

Step 3 –Cut the string

  • Measure the length of where you want to hang your garland
  • Add about 2 feet to that measurement to determine how much string you will need
  • Cut the string to that length
  • Lay the string on your work surface

Step 4 – Glue on the Circles

  • Lay a circle down
  • Add a small amount of glue in the center of the circle
  • Starting about 12” in from the end of the string, lay the string over the glue
  • Lay another circle over the first, aligning the edges
    • You can use the same color or a different color
  • Press gently to spread the glue between the circles
  • Repeat the process
    • You can alternate colors, or go totally random
    • You can space your circles randomly or evenly
  • Let dry before using

4f - complete

Step 5 – Hang and enjoy!

  • Hang the garland, step back and enjoy!
  • There are many ways to use these garlands, including:
    • Hang them on the fireplace mantel
    • Add some cheer to a mirror
    • Hang in a door opening
    • Dress up the stair railing
    • Brighten up a window
    • Hang in a doorway
    • Make several and use them as a photo backdrop

I made my garland with green and yellow paper (Go Pack Go)!  You could make yours in your favorite colors, your team colors, or in colors to match your party theme!

What colors will you make?

Until next week,
